LS Imports: Verdicts

A Verdict

As written up a couple of days ago, I called LS Imports on Saturday to see if I could pop up to their stowage unit for them to look at Phut-Phut's uneven running. The fella suggested I drain the carb, first, which could remove any foreign object causing a blockage. I did this 3 times with test rides between each but the problem persisted. On calling back with the news a CDI unit was agreed to be sent.

The part arrived first post on Tuesday and was a doddle to plug in under the seat, but the problem persisted. I called back and arranged to visit them in Portsmouth. Sorted, 11am today (Wednesday).

The Big Day

A quick but blustery trip over Portsdown Hill was only extended by trying to find Unit 11 out of over 30 units numbered without any reverence to sequality. I stumbled on the right door only when, exasperated, I'd decided to knock on every door. This was the first (provenance?).

Portsdown Hill View

The fella was busy dealing with a young lad with bigger eyes than his wallet, shopping with his Ma and Pa, I think. Once introduced he imediately set to looking over the bike but apologised he couldn't test ride it as he was sporting a couple of broken fingers from an embarrassing spill just outside the gaff. He quickly found the bolt securing the side-stand switch was thread-bare and loose. So, without hesitation he plugged a new bolt in and I went for a blat. The problem persisted.

I wasn't sure what to expect: LS Imports' on-line reputation has been sullied by an idiot who bought one of the custom bikes and over-torqued a nut on the rear shock, which sheared the housing off the frame. His attempt to get a replacement is near legendary and judging by his retort to a metalurologist he deserved nothing less than a trip to the Courts on slander charges. He's go issues, for sure. Unfortunately I had left a review on his page before I realised what a dick he has been. I reckon he's been at his computer too long; all that horse porn left him frustrated.

In fact, I was well looked after, enjoyed my stay, and I'm delighted I was given an "un-restricted" carb to swap out to see if this will cure the problem, which is looking more like a carburetion problem, after all. Excellent. Although their customer service is basic, I can't claim it's not effective, can I?

Overall, I'm now certain the Sanya SY-125-11b is an excellent budget bike and I'm going a little soft on it, which is more than can be said of the way the gears treated me today! Mind you, problems apart, the trip out of Portsmouth back across to Droxford and on in to work was well punctuated by a road-side burger and strong brew and onward cruising of 60mph. I am really enjoying the riding.
